Iraq: The Lost Generation will be shown as part of Michael Sandle’s show
June 1, 2009
From June 6th to August 6th at the DEAN CLOUGH GALLERIES, HALIFAX
Michael Sandle’s title for “A 20th C. Memorial “ an awesome, bronze sculpture of a skeletal Mickey Mouse firing an HMG ” must have seemed premature when it was produced in the 1970’s, now it seems almost fated. Unseen for 20 years, the work proved to be a crowd magnet in Tate Britain where it was shown briefly after being loaned-on-request to a series of non-metropolitan venues which suggests an unsated appetite for a generation of artists whose work tends to be neglected in favour of ’sensation’. Prints by Michael Sandle (b.1936) and regular showings of’ Sharmeen Obaid’s moving Channel 4 film about the civilian victims of the invasion of Iraq will accompany this show.
